Busy Week

After a week of visitors:
There IS someone in there hiding from my monsters!

Someone thought this would be a good idea.....

aswell as my son's second birthday, Easter and trying to write a qualitative report (don't ask) -  I have spent today trying to get the house into something that resembles respectable.
My darling daughter started her new nursery yesterday (Wahoo) and when she gets into the swing of things after bank holidays and the Royal Wedding, I should be able to get back to something remotely craft-like.  Hopefully there will be something to show you soon

Two Today

My little boy turned two today! I am a very proud Mummy. After a tough first year in and out of the hospital with various different things, he has blossomed into an adorable little boy and has thoroughly enjoyed his day.  This is the first time he has been able to open presents by himself unaided which he thought was much fun.  In fact I think that he thought the unwrapping was actually the best bit! But as with all two year old's his favourite thing of the day was the simplest and cheapest:
A helium balloon, bought as a last minute afterthought, was a BIG hit and he spent at least half an hour just watching it bob up and down as he pulled on the string.
With family around us he has had a lovely day and I am very proud to call him my birthday boy!

Spring Days

My in-laws have made the journey across the country to see our little space of Lancashire and I could not have asked for a nicer day! It has been beautiful here today and so we have planted strawberries, sunflowers and tomatoes.  For a four year old this is extremely exciting! So we shall nurture and water and look after our little plants and hopefully in a few months we will have something to show.

Le Piano Rose

Although I have been adapting to new (knitting) needles for the past few months, I haven't forgotten my old needle.  For a long time now I have wanted something that I have done to go atop my piano. Whilst flicking through a book that my aunt got me I found the perfect thing.
Although obviously you do not have to stitch this in pink, the colour that comes with the book is just gorgeous and just a little bit unusual.
My pink piano
I just need to find a nice frame for this, tidy the top of my piano and then there will be photos!

In the meantime I thought I would share the beautiful book I got this from with you in my first attempt at a book review which is French and simply named rose .
You will have to excuse the dodgy photography, but this book is just gorgeous.  It came with two colours of pink thread and a small swatch of aida, for your first project.  The beauty with this book is that it has adorable cross stitch, but also very stylish French embroidery.  The language gap is not a problem as long as you have previous knowledge of how to use a sewing pattern.  This also has some lovely ideas of what to do with your sewing once done, for example some of the embroidery is photographed on plain white napkins, table cloths and towels instead of just being photographed in a frame.  I like this as it gives the reader ideas and is more interesting than some pattern books.
As a cross-stitcher at heart rather than an embroiderer I am naturally drawn to the cross stitch motifs which are adorable, however I have given one of the embroideries as a gift to someone and enjoyed the embroidery just as much as the cross stitch.
The whole book is extremely charming with a very stylish and chic feel.  Also a lot of these are actually relatively easy, there is nothing extremely difficult in here, just simple and effective.

Mother's Day

I would just like to say Happy Mother's Day to all the mummies out there. It is one of the toughest jobs in the world to bring up a little person to be polite, well mannered and a generally decent person. So I say to all you Mum's out there - enjoy your day and let your children spoil you for once
